I rarely quote a whole post, however, in this instance: Joe West wrote: > Actually, the PADI requirement for an instructor candidate to attend > Instructor Candidate Course training (IDC) is 6 months certification and 60 > logged dives. > > Before they can take the Instructor Examination (IE) the candidate must have > been certified for 1 year and logged 100 dives. > > And I quote directly from PADI's Standards and procedures, latest edition: > > Instructor Development Course (IDC) Prerequisites > To enroll in an IDC, an individual must: > 1. Is this a contradiction in terms? Or is that "instructor candidate", perhaps, able to acumulate the remaining dives and time during the course? Hmmmmm? Now let's go back to your very first statement yet again "the PADI requirement for an instructor candidate to attend Instructor Candidate Course training (IDC) is 6 months certification and 60 logged dives". Does this include training dives? Forget it, we all know the answer to that question. So, six dives per month including training dives and that'll get this person up to speed as an Instructor? Really? I know, I repeated myself, but the problems described above are in fact different. And these are the minima? How pathetic. The "Instructed" kid has no clue, doesn't even know any better. As for "medical clearance", do you mean from a properly accredited hyperbaric physician? I rather doubt it. I seem to remember seeing a bit of paper, as in tick the boxes, that "novices" INNOCENTLY give to their own Doctor to complete. This Doctor (not her/his fault) is unlikely to realise the significance of a PFO as just one example, leave alone think of it. Then again, I'm really interested in what you mean by "exceptions may include PADI 5 Star Career Development Center candidates". Why? Why exception? I also not the word "exceptions_s_" in the above statement ... what other exceptions? As implied? Cynically yours, Christian -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
