David,

I definitely owe you an apology... <sigh>
Six months...
Unbelievable.

The update was on a "Special" training bulletin (not the standard first
quarter bulletin) which was not sent to me.
In addition, I downloaded the .pdf Standards and Procedures document JUST
prior to answering your email to verify that
I had it right... except PADI didn't modify their Standards and
Procedures... just this *special* training bulletin.
Special indeed....

No defending this move. It was done so that PADI could make more money,
faster. Period.

I apologize for my error... it is certainly I who am stupid.

Regards,

Joe

Now look here Mr West! ;-(
I don't mind being corrected but don't quote facts "out of the latest
edition" unless your sure your right!

Well yes I got the bit about 80 dives wrong and to all those pro Padi I
apologise in public.

HOWEVER

Go and read Your Training Bulletin for January 2000!
I assume your an instructor and have access to one? :-)

"Effective immediately. the requirement that the individual must be a
certified diver for at least 12 months prior to attending an INSTRUCTOR
EXAMINATION has been changed to 6 months"

I have attached a scanned tiff file of the relevant page from the training
bulletin. Hopefully we can end this bullshit now!

Missing the point a bit here aren't we? this is not about Padi bashing Its
about the stupidity of any training organisation which certifies instructors
without taking into account the need for experience.
