We typically use one bottom timer and a watch. If you are particularly worried about depth then you can get a watch that will read depth. Personally the redundancy for depth is my dive buddy and my knowledge of the area. The watch is good as it allows for timing of stops, BT, and reference to time of day which is a double check on BT.
