Subject: Poseidon regulators

Within a couple of days there has been some questions and opinions
concerning Poseidon regs on the techdiver. I've been usingPoseidon regs
for quite a few years, and thought that maybe I should say something. I'm
not connected to Poseidon dealers or diving business in any way, so what
I say here is, so to say, staight from the horse's mouth.

I live in Finland and I do my diving in the cold waters of the Baltic sea.
In my club, practically everybody owns a Poseidon jetstream reg,
which I think in US is called odin or something. Anyway, it's the Poseidon
top model with 1800 litres/min. maximum flow. The (practically) same
model has been on the market since mid-80es.

In our club, the diving is mostly deep cold water air
diving, with a lot of diving in water temperatures below freezing. In
the northern Baltic, the water temperature below 20-30 metres is
seldom above 4 degrees celsius (around 40-50F).
Usual depths range down to 50 metres (166ft.). We also have done
dives to 60 metres in conditions with better visibility.

During thousands of dives with Poseidon regs in our club,
there has been one single incident of reg freezing, causing it to free-flow.
In that particular case the water temperature was -0.6 degrees C, and
the regulator had been used on a previous dive, and had water in the
2nd stage. I don't remember anybody ever complaining about excessive
ice formation in the 2nd stage, or getting ice chunks in their mouths.

Before the poseidon, I used to dive with a german Baramat
2002 reg, which started showelling snow into my mouth on a regular
basis on every cold-water dive. So I know how it feels like to get a
mouthful of siberia while diving, and I must say I don't like it. That is why I
use Poseidon. According to my experience, the Poseidon is an ideal
regulator for cold water deep diving, and serves happily for many
years, as long as it gets to the shop once a year. The four Poseidon
jetstreams me and my wife own, all are from mid-80es, and still in
top form. We use them with their own 2nd stages, and with
Aga-Interspiro FFM and 2nd stages, and never had any problems with
them.

Good dives to everybody,

Juha
