I just returned from 4 days of Tek'95 in San Francisco. I was very impressed with the caliber of participation. Teckies are not dumb, just a little crazy! I heard some impressive papers on cave diving, rebreathers, physics of bubble formation, legal aspects, archaeology, etc. My first impression of the tech diving community is that there are some very bright, intense, dedicated people of both sexes who do this kind of thing. Having built my first rebreather in 1954, I really can appreciate the changes that have occurred with rebreathers, especially, with the advent of electrochemical o2 sensors and microprocessor controlled gas valves, dive computers, etc. This has inspired me to build another rebreather....for my own use. If anyone is interested in plans for a rebreather, try to locate "Shallow Water Diving" by Schenk and Kendall (1950). This is where I learned to build my own equipment. But please be careful and understand thoroughly what you are doing. Another note. I just bought an unused military Russian rebreather for $50. Quite a deal, but the throw-away cannister is irreplaceble. It's good for 3 hours underwater. (Stormin) Norman Thomas
