Subject: Wreck of U-boat U-96?

Hi All,

Mike Zimmerman saw a chart last summer with a U-boat listed as a wreck off of
Little River Inlet, on the border of North and South Carolina. That's about 25
miles south of Southport, NC.

We didn't see it listed on any other charts. I found a copy of that chart and
I also found it in a book of Loran wreck coordinates.

It is listed as the "U-96". A couple of other sources list it as the wreck of
the "Torungen".

It is near the wreck of the "General Sherman", which has a marker buoy. The
chart lists its depth as 35 feet.

I couldn't find any reference to the "U96" in any of my wreck or U-boat books.

Does anybody have any information on this wreck? Does anybody have a book with
the U-96 listed in it? If so what was its fate?
