Joe, I can agree 100% on most of your post here. I know several PADI instructors that I think are tops. The issue is this: When we see an instructor that is substandard, or just plain reckless, reports to PADI bring absolutely nothing. Not even the common decency of a reply. This leads a reasonable personto believe that the organization has no interest in safety or quality control. How many PADI instructors have you seen get their shingles yanked? I can answer that easily: ZERO. You guys that hold PADI Instructor Shingles need to get Nazi and clean your own house . I know one PADI instructor here in Washington, that has reported 6 instructors last year. No reponse. She finally gave up trying to do anything about it, and just internalized. She also *did not* give 6 people c-cards. The load of bile I blew on you is a a combination of disgust with PADI, frustration because the organization or the people at the top are impotent, and just plain anger. You have to admit, that the ratio of decent instructor to rotten in PADI is very askew. Plus, I work at a destination dive shop. I dive every weekend with brand new c-card holders. I see the result of what is being taught, and how its being taught, and I dive with these folks. I spend a *lot* of time teaching people with c-cards what they should already know. For free. Perhaps we should start a list so people who witness violations can report the name, time and date of the incident, we can record and document reports, and then get a lawyer with fangs to *sue* PADI admin. Sue the pricks right back into the stone age. I can tell you, for sure, that if you guys dont get it together, and take control of your organization, kick out the dickheads, we the people are going to do it for you. I wonder, for instance, what the death rate among newly certified PADI divers is compared to other agencies? I know of three in the local area last year alone.
