If this is the case I would suggest(request?) setting up an Abyss mailing
list.  I personally welcome product announcements, but really didn't
care to see the list of logging options for Abyss, followed up
by the additional suggestions which were mailed to the list as a whole
instead of directly to Chris.

Sure there are benefits to us net.divers that we can have such
input into a 'tool' which some of us may use (ie. Chris can solicit
ideas/suggestions), but at some point I stopped feeling like
I was being given an opportunity and started feeling like the
mailing list was being used for commercial purposes.  Maybe
I am just the only one who did not feel compelled to send in my
ideas (I instead sent the precursor to this mesg).

I tried not to flame here, so dissenting opinions invited,
flames requested to /dev/null.
