Nitrox 21, hmmm that sounds familiar... Oh yeah, it's called AIR. First off, why are you using such a low "mix" for your second dive. If it is because it is too deep for higher percentages of O2 then you should be doing another trimix dive. Otherwise bump up the amount of O2 in the second dive. This will lower the overall N2 loading for the two dives considerably. I'll use 14/50 for my trimix dive, and some time later, I'll use Nitrox 21 for my second dive. My tissues ongas Helium and Nitrogen during the trimix dive. During the deco for this dive, the helium loading disappears quickly, so, effectively, the limiting factor for final exit from the water becomes the nitrogen loading. Using Buhlmann ZHL-16B, it appears that the oxygen fraction in the mix is largely irrelevant (bear with me at this point!). In most implementations I have seen, the Fo2 is only used to determine which deco gas to use (i.e. the one which, if used, would not cause the selected Max PPo2 to be exceeded). Also, the implementations I have seen simply add the He and N2 loadings together. Would the residual N2 tissue loading be the same after my mix dive as if I'd dived the same profile on Eanx 64? Could I consider the (equivalent) N2 gas loading only when planning my second (nitrox) dive?
