I have tied my reels off with 3mm line (I wreck dive). I keep them on a
d-ring on the crotch strap but I was worried about the knot coming undone as
I can't see the reels only feel them and then loosing the reels. When I
tied them off at first I squashed down the ends of the melted nylon but
still wasn't 100% happy so I melted the ends and stuck them together. I
suppose you could always use an o-ring as on the SPG and long hose reg.

Tie it on. We actaully use a double ender for that. If you twist the
reel, it will break the snap at the slide or the aluminum anyway. On a
wreck dive, you would have nothing that is not tied - nothing. In a
cave, the reel can get snaged in the line, but that is not going to kill
you. On a wreck it might. Also, laying line is not an emergency
situation, usless you are diving wiht me, nad then it better not get
stuck or I will cut your harness off to get it. Jablonski started pawing
all over me like a ferret one day when he ran out of line and was trying
to get my real off of me before Brent could get out his.
