JT -- >> Oh brother, I havent posted here in a very long time....havent been in the water this year.....but I do know Janet and the Wahoo....I was not on this particular trip...as I recall the kid had some sort of crisis.... I am particular about my boats....particular about my captains...they dont have to be nice or make me donuts....but they do have to be good captains....Janet is a good captain....I would never ever think twice about going anywhere on the ocean with her....period... I do remember that there was a definite problem between John and Janet on that particular trip because John needed to be in the bow as he was after the bell whereas Janet felt she needed a safer mooring for the balance of her charter....thus the Wahoo was too far for comfort for John to work on his bell search....the Italians with their gear set ups were fine going down the line, saying hello Doria, and coming on back.....John and Billy and Gary however now had too far a swim for their project...and, by the way, as I recall as a side bar of this inconvenience, some other nifty things were found.....so the fuss really was over Janets choosing a mooring appropriate for the balance of her boat vs a mooring that would have pleased Gary... From what excerpts I have read of the book, Gary is in a definite style of settling old scores...that is what many published writers can do...settle scores...Gary rode well for many a year on the Wahoo. After being dis-invited, he is now writing his version of what we all can see to be a trip that was complicated by very large egos coupled with very large ambitions..... The Billy Campbell story has a good ending because he was found by Janet not giving up on someone afloat in the ocean....she did after all find him.....the way I was always told the story by many people there including Billy himself was pure and simple diver error in underestimating the ocean out there....a story which btw I do believe has kept me much safer during my time.... -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
