I have accomplished what I set out to do with this pony thread. That is
to encourage you all to think about why you use a pony rather than
mindlessly strapping one on the side of your tank because it's seems like
 the cool thing to do.

I hope that this new level of consciousness about ponys will encorage
those deco diving with a single and a pony to reconsider what they are
doing. Considering this is "techdiver" I was kind of surprized as to the
outpouring of support for large ponys, which makes me suspicious as to
what you "techdivers" are doing out there.

Once again your arrogance is boggling.....without you none of us would be able
to think through our gear and our gear choices.....all those boat rides spent
noodling around gear, gear configurations and choices just never happen....all
those dinners where the non-diving friends fall asleep in the mashed potatoes
while the divers debate details just dont happen

YOU are the one with blinders on ...the only correct way from your argument
is doubles...the reallity is that many people for many reasons will use
singles and the reality is, or should be, to create as safe and complete air
package as can be done......only your way is the correct way....and only your
experiences...which from reading your posts is fairly limited......are used as
validation.....yes, from a tech forum you got many responses,......where do
tech divers come from???, they come from single tankers.....many divers --not
yet tech, or on the borderline--as we all know from our private e mails--read
this forum.....

We are all part of a small community, the dive community....you stated that
you are surprised that boats up here babysit divers.....again, what blind
arrogance....boats are the great continuum of the community....boats are where
the diver meets the reality of the ocean instead of the pool or
quarry....boats are where the diver learns to be a diver....where divers give
of their experience to the not yet divers....not by brass ball waving....at
least not all the time.....the boats I have sailed on were run by folks who
live and breathe and eat diving....and they want safe, complete, competent
divers....therefore they will spend time with divers....talking, teaching,
directing, guiding.....we all started out clumsy klutzes with all kinds of
gear all over the place....it took boats and going out continuallly to get the
program together.....

So, again, as I see it, but one of my boat Captains may step in to fine tune
this:

Single tanker should carry a pony used as a completely redundant, emergency
air source...if its not mounted corrrectly, banging around or hanging you up,
get someone on the boat deck to help you out...if there isnt anyone on that
deck, get yourself to a better boat....

Once your dive profiles start requiring more gas....move on to doubles....

Once your dive profiles start requiring more gas ....move on to
stages.....bigger bottles, bigger bottles, bigger bottles,,,,,<g>
