Smoking acutally gives you a lower breathing rate other than in exertion situations due to the fact that you are acclimated to hypoxia, hypercapnia, etc, but then the lung stiffness is not a good idea in diving, and neither is the loss of gas transfer, not to mention the other horrifying problems of smoking. It is an addiction only. Let me susggest you just stop doing it. The breathing rate thing is a bullshit excuse by the no-name "von" to justify his idiocy - not good enough.
