Good advice, Dan. I would modify the recommendation to 40 miles per week on a bike, at least to start with, for someone who probably doesn't exercise at all. Although there seems to be "a little" exaggeration on this thread, it is clear that some of the WKPP divers are in great shape, with superb VO2 max's, and there really is no substitute for good physical conditioning in diving, or anything else. I am lucky to do 40 miles on my bike, averaging 20 mph, once a week. And I used to bike and ski (cross- country) competitively.
