Richard I get in an out of my kit with twins on one of the hard boats I dive and there are no problems. Avoid having a very tight harness as it is not necessary and makes getting in and out of the kit easier. I can get out of my kit as fast if not faster than someone in "conventional" kit. Where do you live? I'm sure there is a DIR person near you in the UK who would be happy for you to try their kit. I imagine that getting the rig off in the water with no break in the harness would be awkward. Comments from anyone using a single harness on a RIB would be appreciated.
