It is strange how shit can happen usually at the most inconvenient time.

Apologies, I misread what you had written. I really hate coming back to the
shot and especially hate having to stage deco gas on a shot (which I have
never done except for cave diving). My very good dive partners would say
(probably rightly) that I can't find my way around a wreck and so have no
hope of finding a shot :-)

What I'll be doing, when the bloody weather here improves, is to switch to 3
deco gasses for 80m and deeper dives (two 7 litres and a 3 litre pony).
There will be no increased weight out of water to what I have been diving
(two 10.4 litre stages). It will provide me better deco and greater bail out
options. What actual depths are we talking about here for your dives?

>Amount of line is not an issue - I nomally just free ascend to my first deep
stop and blow the bag from there.

See my earlier post on the downside of this when an early or late ascent is
performed.

I agree - in low surface vis - return to the shot line. (Mid channel - I
always carry an EPIRB for peace of mind!)

Never had a problem with it snagging - even if you did whats the issue - just
flick the line clear!

Depth is not the issue I was raising it is bail out deco gas - I just find

complete the deco if my travel or deco gas blows out. Therefore I prefer to
return to a point with spare gas staged.

Amount of line is not an issue - I normally just free ascend to my first deep
stop and blow the bag from there.

I agree with this - we only use scheduling when everybody is doing the same
dive, no second dives on these trips! Bagging off is a relatively difficult
skill and takes practice but it is often used from shallow wrecks in the UK
and therefore most divers have assimilated this skill before moving onto
deeper dives with a statutory deco requirement.

Gee thanks for that useful information - I never thought of any of this!
Where did I say that I didn't do my deco in a horizontal position - which in
fact I do. Guess you should read the mail properly before you start doling
out the smart guy comments.

I agree that this is the risk but you can hear a boat approaching and unclip.
I just find that on a long hang with a swell running that clipping in takes
the strain out of your arm (alternatively attach a piece of shot cord between
the buoy and line to take out the snatch.

Cheers
