Wrolf,

First off, let's put your comments in perspective.
You dive solo. Solo diving and DIR do not mesh
together particularly well.

Just because Dave Sutton gives an accurate depiction
of the way that some people dive in the North East,
does not make it right. There may even be people in
all areas of the world who dive the way Dave Sutton
dives. That still doesn't make it right.

You are right though that people regard Dave's
equipment configuration as entertaining. This is
because he has not been able to defend one bit of
reasoning behind his system with regard to why it is
better, safer, and less prone to failure. His only
defense has been "This is how I've done it for 25
years". DIR on the other hand has been able to defend
these points. Every time Dave opens his mouth he says
something dumber than the time before. This is why
people find his posts entertaining. He keeps trying to
defend the indefensible.

As I have tried to explained before, and I'm not sure
if everyone has noticed this, this list works in the
following way based on my observations:

1. People talk about some equipment configuration.
2. If it is not totally ideal people critisize it
3. People argue back and forth.
4. The stuff that is better is more defensible in the
debate, so it comes out the winner at the end of
   the discussion.

So, given this is how the list works, and given that
Dave Sutton and some other NE type divers have not
been able to defend their way of doing things it means
they do not have an ideal system.

So.........

On all fronts DIR has come out the winner. No one has
been able to come up with any good argurments against
it as yet. No one has been able to come up with
anything better as yet.

So why doesn't everybody dive DIR?

You said:

Wrolf, put your money where your mouth is so to speak.
Explain to the list (in detail) why DIR does not work
in the NE. I'm not asking you to explain what system
you use or to justify your system, just to explain why
DIR does not work in the NE.

So far the list has had a lot of fun (at Dave's
expense) critizing the equipment configuration of some
NE divers. Now it's your turn to return the favour.
Are you up for it?

If you can't maybe Dave can. You want to take a shot
at this Dave?

Now this might make for some real entertainment.

Mat.
