>Only meant the line as a means of shedding stages. I use mine as a >reference for the 20 foot stop. At the end of the stop, I clip my stage to >that line *while still at 20 feet* and make for the ladder. I don't block >traffic at all, and I still have my basic rig for the eventuality of >getting flipped off the ladder by the sea. That works. How does it work when 8 guys are hanging off at the same stop? And who do you rely on to set your line? Those dreaded "Boat Monkeys"?? ;-) If you set your own gear line, and 5 other guys do too, how many lines are hanging off? Lots of these techniques work OK if you have your own boat, since you can do what you like. Charter boat diving is different. You might be able to wrangle up some help from the crew, but I never count on it. Guys that obscenely deride the Mates should -never- count on it. >Under more benign conditions, I will sometimes use the equipment line for >my entire rig. But then, we don't see mirror-flat water very often up >here, do we? Only but rarely. I've shed gear getting into small boats (like 16 foot boats), but not on the real boats. Rough water and 16 foot boat are mutually exclusive anyhow, so for the small boat diving it's flat enough to drop yer load. Try it on the big boats and it's pain. I mean, just dragging a set of doubles up an 8 foot freeboard boat is not good for gear, nor boat. Talk about making Captains -scream...- ;-) See ya, Dave Sutton -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
