Many years ago, I found the Pelican lights and bought one - it worked fine
right up to the time when it leaked. Pelican are great, they replaced it
free of charge. The replacement still rests in its original packing,
unopened. I now have two Barry Miller lights which, thankfully, I have only
used in drills. Work they did, more of a light sabre than a light, they cut
through the darkness with a near pencil-like beam.

It really amazes me how stupid I must have been!

Greg, there is nobody currently in the WKPP who uses this (Pelican)
light. Besides the obvious that the attachment point is all wrong, and
that they leak most dives, and that we had nothing but trouble with them
including the scratching and weakening of the glass, intermittant on and
off, turning on at depth almost evey dive by themselves and that you can
put the correct bulb in any light, we have our own made by Barry to our
exact specs, so why would we want to jury rig a proven pain in the ass?

Barry's light has the correct dimensions, attachemnts, length and width
braised springs, strips and contacts, foolproof on and off twist under
pressure at depth, perfect reflector and focus and exact match of
battery and bulb, the corect thread size and glide for operation only
when it is ooperatied, and not by itself, etc, etc, etc..

Again, Greg, the reason we make our own lihgt? You figure it out.

The fact is that I know what it is like to come out from hell on a
backup light, and I insist that team members use the correct light for
several very good reasons. People who don't get this don't dive with us
.... Period.

My information is based on experinece that you do not have, that WKPP
support and setup divers do not have, and that is based my ability to
see the whole picture.

When your primary fails and you are on a backup, it must work, it must
last, and it must focus to where you can see the line without being IN
the line while scootering - the lines are generally in deeper water, the
vis in generally not good, and when you lose your light and have to
concentrate on a deeper line riding close you are slowed way down, use
more gas, use more light, use more time, etc.

I am real sick of amateur bullshit opinions whether they come from
within the WKPP or without. The fact is we make out own light for a very
good reason, and your opinion this matter is uttery worthless, as is
that of whomever in the WKPP told you this.

You know , Greg, I don't not just make up crap for the hell of it - I
know what I am talking about, and have the track record ot prove it.

I don't buy cheap ass bullshit gear for life support, and only a stroke
would do so. I have eliminated a whole slew of strokes from the WKPP
this year for just such inconsiderate , short sighted , self-deluded
bullshit, and you will not find any current members who do anything
differnently that the way we have asked that it be done. The usdct
specializes in personal prefrence , not the WKPP.
