The following information is from the Merck Manual, a book I recommend highly to the chemically curious; "Viton copolymers; Copolymers of vinylidene fluride and hexafluoropropylene. Used as synthetic rubbers that withstand a temperature of 200F in contact with most oils, chemical solvents, and fuels, have good mechanical properties, resistance to ozone, oxygen and weathering." Most types of 'natural' rubber are susceptible to failure induced by heat, most oils, chemical solvents, and fuels, have good mechanical properties, resistance to ozone, oxygen and weathering. Hence, the common usage of viton in extreme situations. The downside is it is rather expensive. All the best, Peter David
