Dear Steve Waldron, In my opinion, the best design of a very bright hand held (can be head mounted) dive light is the Underwater Light and Motion light. Originally, the light was designed for video work. It has a small diameter light about 2.5 inches in diameter on a convienent handle and a cable leading back to a back or waist mounted gel battery pack. I am told that it is very popular with the cave diving community. I don't know the details on the rated brightness, but I recently watched a group of 16 or so research divers perform a night dive. From shore, you could tell whenever the UL&M light went on from the glow. It was rather impressive. I have used their video lights and housings, which I believe to be the best in the business. Their stingray video housing has one O-ring, fully visible unless you get the optional (&recommended) color monitor, when it has two. The battery packs double as double rails under the housing so that you can easily dump it on the sand or set down stably on a rock. I don't have their address here, but I can get it. They had an advertisement at the back of the latest Dive Training magazine. They are located in Monterey on Cannery Row. Their telephone number is (408) 375-1525 I trust this helps. All the best, Peter P.S. "Tell them Peter David sent you."
