Nick: You've gotten way off the subject. The statement was made that you
cannot use a scuba regulator for 100% oxygen. I said "nonsense". I stand
by that answer. Talk to any gas supplier and ask if insurance
requirements, OSHA regulations, DOT regulations, EPA regulations, etc.
have any bearing on the way they do business, what they tell customers to
do with regard to the materials that they sell, and how much it costs for
them to do business. Nobody is suggesting that you slather grease onto
oxygen orings. What I have suggested and what you find to be heretical is
the fact that a new US Divers, Poseidon, Sherwood, Dacor and likely many
others out of the box can be used for 100% oxygen service straight out of
the box. I've got a set of twin steel 72's connected with a Benjamin
valve. One tank was purchased in 1964, the second one in 1984. The
Benjamin valve was purchased in 1986. These three items have been joined
together since 1986 when I first filled them with 100% O2. The tanks and
valves have never been oxygen cleaned and they have never been below
500psi O2 in 8 years except for annual maintenance 8 years. I know, I know,
I'm the special case who is
the only person in the world to be able to do this. I know a dozen other
divers who have clean but not oxygen cleaned tanks filled with O2 for
longer or shorter periods of time. There haven't been any problems. I
know, I know, I and my dozen friends are the only ones who can do this
and get away with it. Since you cannot think of 12 examples of non oxygen
cleaned regulator
failure give me three examples. You cannot use the space shuttle (nice
try though) as an example of a scuba regulator failure even though the
shuttle was underwater at the end; it wasn't meant to be. If you cannot
come up with at least one documented case, then I believe you are simply
repeating something you read or heard in the past for which you haven't a
shread of evidence.
