Under normal deco conditions you wouldnt attach the jon-line to your harness .. There are several hazards that are avoided by not attaching . 1) ignorant people ascending to there stop or the surface that do not look above them get the line on there tank valve or manifold and get tangled & then drag you in to them and up and it is a cluster to get lose with no slack after they have you and them all wrapped up. 2) criminally stupid people have sent lift bags up an anchorline on a clip and knocked everyone off, if you are tied on with your jon-line you get dragged up to the limit of the tether and mangled instead of dodging out of the way. 3) If the anchorline changes depth due to breakage or a group of massively too bouyant divers you cant scramble down to the correct depth quickly. The only times i attach the jon-line to my harness is when the currant is so severe that i kinow i wont have the strenght to hang on the whole time , then i slip the end under a shoulder strap , and wind it around the standing part to cause friction to grip the line but still be able to get free by releasing my hand grasp on the doubled part of the line -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
