Gentlemen,
On this counterdiffusion issue; You cannot inflate a bubble against
surface tension by passive diffusion alone - the energy required is simply
not there. The phenomenon of bubble formation attributed to
counterdiffusion as a result of switching gasses under isobaric conditions is
probably a case of changing the solubility of one or more gasses in a local
area of tissue as a result of local temperature changes (skin) or the
introduction of other solutes (as in salting out).
