I'd get a 7 foot hose anyway. It'll stow perfectly when (if) you get a 
canister light on your right hip. I don't think a 5 foot hose is long 
enough - especially in our bulky dry suits though I must admit I haven't 
tried one.

 From what I've heard there may be a problem with freezeup of SP (though I 
have a G250/Mk20 myself and never experienced a problem) and would thus 
recommend an Apeks (have 4).

I do not know what a 'pillar' valve is. A Y-valve would be a good place to 
start until you get a twin set.
