Sounds like John Cronin talking: "Scuba diving is safer than bowling" "Let the masses in even if they can't swim." Speaking on the recreational side as a NAUI Course Director for over 10 years and teaching rec scuba for nearly 20, with proper training and proper pre screening of students, recreational Diving is "safe" in comparison to many sports . However, recreational scuba is NOT for everyone despite what the manufacturers advertise. Even PADI had to finally relent on not requiring students to know how to swim. Dateline is Dateline. Have they ever run an unbiased, unsensational report on anything? Anyone who uses information gathered solely from dateline to make decisions about recreational diving is about as smart as the people who "learn" tech diving off the internet and web pages.
