> >> >>>Susan - I think you are fighting a losing battle here. I would all but >>>guarantee there are more DIR ocean divers on this list than cave divers. Kevin: I am posting not to "win" a contest or count the number of divers, cave or ocean on the list, but to present my viewpoint and defend it when issues come up on which I am knowledgeable. This is an open DISCUSSION forum for learning about tech diving. I know from my experience and the many private e-mails that I have received that many tech divers on this list use back up bottom timers and will continue to use them. I certainly will. It's important for new divers to know there are, in fact, different viewpoints on issues and these viewpoints can be discussed without undue spamming - and I think this discussion has pretty much been reasonable. I have never lost a buddy. I hope on my deathbed when I am 190 years old I can say the same thing. I will always try to be the best diver I can be, mentally, physically and spiritually, for my buddy and for myself. But for me to say now I know with a certainty I will never make a mistake and lose a buddy EVER would be claiming I am perfect in this particular skill now and for all future diving I embark upon. And even more significantly is that not only am I perfect and always will be, but my buddy is perfect and always will be. I will not make this claim and I hope my buddies will knock me off my pedastal and put my feet right back on the ground where they belong when I start claiming I am perfect and always will be. Every dive and skill involves risk. We all know things don't always go as planned. Look at the accidents the Blue Angels have had and they train, live, eat and work together daily, full time with their buddies. Things screw up, they always have and always will. When humans start thinking they are perfect and will continue to always be perfect is, in my opinion, when we really start having problems, personally and while diving. susan -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
