Kevin, what you're diving is Personal Preference,
not DIR. There are enough descriptions of DIR on
the internet for you to verify this for yourself.

Kevin, you must understand that if you want to dive
Personal Preference with a console, that is entirely your
business. I don't care. But until you have the hours,
the experience, the range of equipment to chose from,
the intelligence, the achievements, the technical and
scientific ability, and the safety record of the
people who designed and developed the DIR system, don't
kid yourself that you have much to offer in competition
with the DIR system.

I do not scooter, my diving consists of

Kevin, you seem to want me to validate your use
of a console. I won't. Because the console - that
ungainly clump of disparate instruments - is one of
the most awkward, clumsy and inept pieces of equipment
ever foisted on the diving community.

Me, I dive a single pressure gauge which, because it is
small and neat, doesn't get hung up between my sling
cylinders. And doesn't trap line or anything else.

The single gauge, being smaller, if caught or twisted
will apply considerably less of a turning moment and
leverage to the HP hose connection than a console will.
So it minimises the risk of an HP hose leak or failure.

The depth gauge/bottom timer can sit where it requires
the least amount of effort to read - on my forearm next
to my watch.

It strikes me Kevin, that if this lobster catching
business is so hard on your lower arms that you can't
wear a gauge on your arm, then your latex drysuit seals
must be getting a hammering. Or do you wear a gauntlet
style glove to protect them? If so, the gauntlet can
also cover your watch and gauge. Alternatively, the rubber
wrist strap allows you to slide the guage higher up high
on your arm, out of harm's way.

Kevin, I don't care whether you wear a hard-hat, boots
and a tutu when you dive. I really don't. Just understand
that like your console, it isn't DIR, it's Personal
Preference.
