MHK,

This thread is not about what equipment you dive right
now. This thread is a discussion of an "ideal
configuration". I'd be surprised to find more than a
handfull of divers who truely can call themselves 100%
DIR. But that's probably not as important as their
attitude. If you are reading and learning more about
this DIR thing, and technical diving in general, you
probably have the right attitude. This mean, in part,
trying to improve your survivability in this sport.
It means really understanding the risk factors and the
equipment considerations that affect this. This DIR
thing may seem like a religion, or absolute or
whatever, but that's because these discussions are
about what a "perfect" configuration is, or should be.

DIR has been around quite a while now and many part of
it have been tested and argued and verified by many
people, in many different environments, in many
different part of the world. Because of this many
parts of this system have been defined and proven.
That is not to say DIR has finished it's evolution.

There is however a lot of evidence showing that
sub-optimal or "imperfect" gear configurations can
kill you just a quickly as a "bad attitude" can. This
has also been proven and documented on this list.

If this discussion does not interest you however, you
are free to press delete.  It is not difficult;
however, don't get upset and complain about people
having views that do not agree with your own. I
believe this was your point, so you may also wish to
heed your own advice.

Mat.
