Phi,

As stated, not all boats have chase boats. Don't think I've been on any
6 pack that does. 6-packs typically range in size from 29 - 36 foot.
With 6 divers, one crew, a captain, 2 sets of doubles and stage bottles
for crew and passengers, not too much room for a cooler let alone a
chase boat. Most bigger boats do have a chase boat. As stated, a
drifting diver would be watched by the crew. If they got way too far
off the Capt. would most likely call the Coast Guard.

To address the other statement about not diving from a boat that has
more then 6 people, 6 packs are a little cramped. Too expensive to run
a 40+ foot boat and only take 6 divers, Most wrecks are in the 10-15
mile range, wouldn't imagine you'd make much money with only 6
passengers. Most of the bigger boats will take between 10-22 people but
then again we're talking 45 to 80 foot boats, plenty of room for that
many divers.

If we didn't have the bigger boats and everyone was on 6 packs can you
imagine how many boats on a given weekend would be anchored to the San
Diego, Oregon, Stolt, etc....

Hope this helps (a little),
Art.

		Maggie,

Thanks for the detail explanation, I just want to make
sure I understand
		correctly the NE procedures.

If any diver got drifted away from the wreck for any
reason, the diver would
have no choice but to do drift deco. Is it true that
this diver is on
his/her own then ? No chase boat will be deployed ?

		Phi
