As usual i didn't perhaps make my point clear enough. I feel as your skills
develop and progress there comes a time when you can do an ascent of a wreck
with a reel with stout line not the lighter line usually sold with reels.
Now we are talking the recreational dives and wrecks as i feel this orginal
poster was talking about. Now if your talking the more challanging "tech"
wrecks (read deeper, currents, etc.) there comes a point where a reel is not
suitable. Of course at this point the breaking strength of any upline should
be a concern and in my opinion not a place for sisal in any event. As a side
note i had a guy in the shop the other day that took a large reel and
spooled it with the same nylon line we both have on our up lines. He wound
up with over 150 ft ( i don't remember the excact amount) on it and uses
this as his up line. He clips it off on his backplate at the back of the
crotch strap. I found it interesting enough i am going to spool one of our
larger reels and try it myself. Bill
