Subject: Independent Doubles - Scary
Date: Sun, 9 May 1999 08:27:07 -0400
I was on one of our local VA Beach, VA boats yesterday. Typically over the
past several years, I have not seen nor have I heard of anyone doing this
configuration around here. But it appears that an instructor and a group of
divers from the western part of VA (the instructor maybe operating local
here, I am research that) are bring back this configuration. There were 5
sets of these on the boat.

Description of Setup:

2 Aluminum 80 cu ft, Independent with what appeared to be 2" or 2 1/2" PVC
pipe cut in half with slots cut in them for the two cinch straps to mount
the tank to the pipe. They used two stainless steel eyebolts as mount points
to the BC. It looked like threaded rod (SS?) passing horizontally from one
vertical PVC mounting pipe through the eyebolt to the other PVC pipe. Nuts
were used as spaces and tighting.

This whole rig was unstable and one could see it shift as the move around on
the boat heading to the water.

The rigging on the stage bottles was unbelievable. None of the stages were
setup the same. WWrong clips, use of bungy cord, sleel to steel with no rope
or line.

They were advised to get bands, manifolds w/isolator, change the rigging on
the stages.

This would be a great study and paper of DIR vs. DIW

R/David
