Scott, >Perhaps... but what if a budding tech. diver hasn't logged more than a few >dozen decompression/mixed gas dives? So what? Even if it is his first deco dive you use a bottomtimer, period. >Don't you think it would be smart to use tables AND a wrist computer until that diver has enough experience to fly by the seat-of-his-pants? Personally I think it is rather dumb. >It seems to me one would have to be S-T-U-P-I-D and a bit foolish to rely on memorized >decompression tables when that person doesn't have sufficient experience. Redundancy >is what it's all about if you ask me (which you didn't). Memorize the table you intent to dive, put the redundant tables in your pocket. When you don't have "sufficient" experience you should not do any complicated deco anyway, just simple schedules. Easier for the brain to memorize too :-) Most computers would lock anyway when you do accellerated deco. Now there's a couple that have the cool gas-switching capabilities... wow... The Cochring, the NiTEK (for "tekkies"... ahum, shouldn't that be Nitech?) and now the "Explorer" with trimix capabilities. Really cool. And really a waste of money. These would support accelerated deco, but still do not give the profile as I would like to dive it. Sorry buddy, can't find one decent reson to buy a divecomputer. Are you trying to justify your own use of a computer maybe? Just bought a very expensive one? Tell me, what is wrong with a bottomtimer and a set of tables in the pocket?
