I use a Dive Rite Nitek3. Good computer IF IT IS USED PRIMARILY AS A TIMER FOR YOUR TABLES but the decompression info adds a comfort zone (deco computer for Nitrox dives only - operates as a timer for Trimix). One criticism, the screen is a bit small. One word of advice: changing mixes is done by pushing the buttons on the front face. This works well and is vastly superior to the Cochran mechanism. BUT myself and another user have had a couple of occasions when the mix has changed without our intervention. This has been due to the pressure fluctuations of entering the water operating the buttons. Always stop briefly at 3m to check mix (and all your other gear). Note: on the dive I noticed the mix had changed I was could refer to tables and used the Nitek as a timer. The importance of having tables and a back up timer cannot be stressed enough. I have heard tales of woe of the Cochran. Batteries being a common fault, a friend is on his 6th after it keeps blacking out. Also, on multiple dives they have been showing massive deco penalties that were quite unrealistic. I don't think they are reliable enough. I didn't think the Abyss was released yet? General question to everyone: what governs deco computers, software, etc. Who validates the algorithm? Who approves the systems. Someone has posted details of a program he wrote, how was this tested? regards Mark -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
