James: The attitude part is quite interesting. "Don't listen to strokes" and "Don't dive with strokes" are frequently quoted as being rules of DIR diving. As Sean writes, the progression has been Hogarthian -> DIR -> DIR II DIR and DIR II are probably defined best by the two video tapes. (I have seen neither, but have read heated debates about them on techdiver. If anyone is done with their copy, I would love to see them.) In fact, I think that the progression has been that Hogarthian and DIR selected specific elements of Florida cave diving and technical diving. Apparently other people were "diving the long hose" before Hogarthian diving. DIR refined this, and added stuff, like MOD marking of bottles, and a lot of stuff related to scooters. Wrolf "Sean T.
