Bill,

I'm an old diver(open water cert in 1975) but "new" to tech diving(full
cave 2/99). I've been lurking on this list for a few weeks, trying to
learn something. What I've learned, up until your post on regs, is that
I was insufficiently trained in hand to hand combat in the cave
environment, didn't learn nearly enough acronyms and abbreviations to
understand cave/tech conversation, nor was I properly trained in
arrogance, the use of epithets, or the putdown. During my training in
the Yucatan I was informed that few of the cave groups spoke to each
other in words longer than four letters. I can now see that this style
of conduct is nearly universal among North American Cave divers. This
explains the enigma of so many cavers diving solo in the Yucatan.

Thanks to your excellently written explanation about regulators. I'll
subscribe to this list a little longer, certainly make better purchasing
decisions, and maybe stay alive another hour or two.

Please post your opinions and knowledge more often.

Curt
