I've finally become fed up with the blistering paint on the oldest of my OMS 46 cylinders, and am having the cylinder exterior sand-blasted down to bare, galvanized metal. (I tried a chemical stripper with absolutely no success.) The cylinder is a dedicated oxygen sling bottle, and I plan to mark it a la WKPP rather than replace the IANTD Nitrox band. My questions: Is there any compelling reason why I shouldn't leave the cylinder unpainted? And should the freshly sand-blasted cylinder be re-galvanized (if this is even possible...)?
