Thanks to everyone who offered information about Rix compressors. To summarize: Rix compressors are reliable and easily serviced/maintained/rebuilt by an owner, but although they deliver high-quality air, one should probably add (1) a coalescor (moisture separator?), (2) either a dryer or combination purifier cartridge, and (3) a micron particle filter to catch stray filter media from the purifier cartridge. One person warned about the high initial cost of the Rix; several others thought that the price of the Rix is competitive. Another person warned that any savings I would realize by not having to replace hyperfilters would be consumed by maintenance (replacing rings). Finally, I found compelling the argument that a Rix admits options (e.g., oxygen injection) that a non-oil-free compressor does not. Again, thanks to all.
