I realize that this is a radical concept for techdiver, but I don't mind 
breaking new ground. How about a simple backplate and DIR rigged harness 
for 1/4 the price of this unit? Granted it does not have "4 air dumps 
with rip cords" but then in the case of air dumps, the fewer the better, 
IMHO.

And I and many other divers don't miss the lack of a "large cumberbun and 
chest lip" even for a second. So why pay for one? Nice thing about the 
DIR backplate is that you can get a single tank adpter for those "80 and 
bolt" dives, if you are doing this stepping stone to more fun diving.

I do realize that a such a radical and cutting-edge item as a plate with 
webbing might be a bit much for the "macho challanged" who need all the 
help they can get. But you do get used to the quiet nod acknowledging 
that you have left the ranks of strokedom behind and have moved on to 
better things.
