IMO they are a must! I dive in the Northeast most of the year with twins and a pony. I use and most of the people I dive with uses big red rubber bands "about 2 foot circumference" to hold the regulators just under our chins. If needed by partner, just pull hard and it will break. Otherwise its out of the sand/mud/silt/etc and where you can have quick access to it. Mark your regulators, so you know which 2nd stage goes to which bottle. I use different color mouth pieces, and different brand for right, left, pony bottle. I always use the same reg in the same position. Less chance of screw-ups. ie: going down the anchor line, and along the wreck to find out you are out of air because you put your pony in your mouth. John Banks banksjc@nu*.co* (SECONN John)
