The spool and lift bag are normally easy enough to reach=20 and deploy, but I've already lost one lift bag and had a situation=20 where the spool rotated halfway around my cylinder, almost out of=20 reach. I too have never liked connecting the up-line to the tanks, as it's another snag point and you have to reach around the wing. I drilled 2 holes in my backplate. I then made a loop using =BC (I think) nylon rope. I then attached a = thin 1 1/2" ring to the other hole below it also using =BC" line. I have attached a brass clip to the end of the up-line handle. I basically insert the non-clipped end of the up-line to the upper loop and clip = the other end to the ring. I have made it tight enough so the upper end of the reel can't come out of the loop but also left enough slack so it = can move around a little while diving. Deploying it is a snap! I just unclip it from the ring and it falls right through the upper loop into my hand. No tugging, streamlined and easy to deploy. It sits under my arm and I don't even know it's there although it's streamlined by my shoulder below my armpit.. The one I'm using, and I think Art = Greenberg is also using, are the smaller ones not the older style ones that are huge and use sisal line. I have one of these but only use it if I know I'm going down and will be sending up a lift bag with a heavy artifact. The sisal can be sent up with the bag and tied and cut at the bottom. The line breaks down in less than a year unless you use the really = thick stuff. This allows you to at the surface cut the line and let it drop to the bottom. I'd never do this with nylon line unless it was an emergency and it was leave the line or lose my life. Heck I'd probably just recover the line the next time I was at the wreck anyway. As for my 50 lb. lift bag, I put it in my left billow leg pocket. Hope this helps! Art. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
