first off i have no real problem with lake people asking to keep certain
wrecks off the salvage table (to a point) since it appears that for the most
part the wrecks stay intact 7 don't collapse (i am told this by nlake guys)
however the ocean wrecks are quite a bit different & that was where i started
this whole thread.
but i do find interesting your comment (see below your first paragraph).
you sure don't want to stop those guys coming for two reasons:
1- they are the ones mostly responsible for the exploration & finding of
these wrecks.
2- you want to keep them coming because you like there money.
my stand on places that set rules to "LOOK BUT DON'T TOUCH'"
IF THEY MAKE RULES I DON'T LIKE I DON'T GO THERE -THEY DON'T GET MY MONEY.
this is an approach i would like to see all wreck divers interested in
artifacts adopt.
the arkies & there crowd are in a position to dictate some rules but we do not
have to support them. if there are enough of us that will travel only to
places that have an open mind on our type of diving then that's who i will
support.

Bill,
What my intended meaning was is that the "people who say DON't Touch" are
not advocating a ban on exploration of these wrecks. Certainly most can
realize we have many reasons to leave these ships as they lay, but any
mainstream advocates for protection of wrecks(at least those I am aware of)
don't include an "off limits to visitors"
policy.
I have many friends on both sides of the border who agree on the
preservation issue.
It's interesting,however, to sit in an audience in Ontario and hear that
the "most of the wreck strippers come from the other side of the lake" and
then hear the exact same opinion expressed here(New York State). Largely
BS..........
It sounds like Michigan's charters have their stuff together. You may be
able to enjoy your wrecks for years to come.....
