I thought some people might be interested to know that the Empress
of Ireland wreck (Rimouski, Canada) is now protected by the Canadian
government and the protection is being enforced.

Apparently, a diver was charged following an inquiry by the RCMP 
(Royal Canadian Mounted Police) on November 13th for illegaly 
removing artifacts from the wreck. His first appearance in court 
is scheduled for the 21st of jan 1999. Updates to follow.
