Gentlemen, There is only one way to do this right, and that is the DIR way, as outlined on this forum ad infinitum by WKPP and GUE . All the rest is going to get you into trouble sooner or later. Better do it right from the very start. It takes courage and vision to admit that a method you were instructed in, can be adjusted and made better. It never hurts to question something but reason must prevail over personal preference. This is especially true for dives of an inherent difficult nature, as technical dives invariably are. You could get away with sloppy technique, equipment and attitude on a recreational dive , but on a technical dive, you could get killed by them . Better learn doing it right from the very start ! That means Open Water diving courses should teach the principles of DIR right away. For technical diving courses, there is no option but to teach the DIR method. It is the only method that makes sense and applies to all and every kind of technical diving. All IANTD, TDI and the other 'tech' agencies have to do now is review their equipment standards or at least incorporate the DIR way as an option, before many more people get killed by their convoluted ways. The current standards are only a start and should evaluate ASAP . It also takes courage to do this, but I'm sure Mr Mount will have this on his agenda for the next meeting with the board, or wherever these things are decided and talked about. Personal preference kills, at least that is what I learned from the accident reports these past few months I have been following this list. Anyone with a brain can see that the DIR way is the best way so far. Admitting it on this and other forums is of course an other matter especially with all the big egoes around here . I for one am getting very tired from always seeing the same questions and opinions being posed and formed on this techdiver list. The killing should stop.. dive DIR or don't dive at all. Just my 2 cents rgrds Adri Haine ( not an instructor, just a diver with IANTD, CMAS and PADI c-cards) -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
