The solution would be not to use a narcotic gas in the first place,
although even a reasonable gas for the depth will be worse if you push it
down fast.  (Of course, I suppose the narcosis-lovers out there will
want to maximize that effect and go down faster.)

One other note from an oldtime diver friend of mine concerns a night dive
he did years ago in Tobermory.  They went down fast to maximize bottom
time (on the Arabia), and on the way down he realized that he hadn't
fully connected his drysuit hose and couldn't get it hooked up before
pressure on the arms of his suit prevented him from doing anything about
it.  Fortunately, his buddy saw what has happening, hooked him up, and
inflated him to a more reasonable volume.

So do be certain your regulator and suit inflator are working before
you're too committed to going down.  Never descend faster than your
guardian angel can swim!
