Erick fumed: >the fact >that Arnold tried to use their name on his gear to promote sales is >completely underhanded. And now we hear that Trader John is stealing >designs of pee valves. When will it end and WKPP get the credit they >deserve. Am I the only one who sees the humor in your post? You are lambasting Arnold for improperly using the WKPP name on a light, and John for not giving WKPP credit when he makes WKPP-style pee valves. Since WKPP comes up with a lot of good ideas, and vigously advocates their adoption by the cave/tech community, but isn't making the stuff themselves, it is inevitable that other vendors will fill in the gap. This places them in an ackward position - do they acknowledge the debt, and be accused of missappropriating the WKPP name, or not acknowledge it, and be accused of stealing the idea? It gets even more complicated now that WKPP has apparently licensed its name to several vendors. So maybe we should let them worry about it? As to John stealing the pee valve, there have been a couple designs for pee valves floating about, and full details of them all have been published on the net. Various individuals have offered ready-made ones for sale, including, I think, one of the people who was selling them. So what's the gripe? Anytime anyone publishes or freely distributes the plans for something like this, they've got to realize that someone else may see an opportunity and try producing a batch. And in a case like this, where the parts are cheap but a pain to find in small quantities, by doing so they are doing everyone a favor. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
