The amount of oxygen is not effected by this - you can have 50% oxygen deco gas that is 25%/25%/50% if you chose. The programs will accomodate this to a certain extent. Helium is easier to breath, easier to decompress from, and causes less damage, especially deep. It obviously reduces the narcotic effects as well. The only time we use oxygen at 30 feet is if we are out of the water in a container and dry - we do not do it immersed. You will hear all kinds of rumors about us - everything but the truth. The only rumor that is true is that we hold the records and are still alive after years and years of listening to the strokes say we will get killed . Look at the comparitave track reocrds of my org and theirs. I personally use helium in all of my diving gases, but for deco I am still not using helium in my 50 50 or my 35 gas, but I do not do the length of deco that the others do. I accellerate the intermediate stops severely, and it is working so well the way I do it that I do not want to change anything. I did a 6 hour at 300 and 8.5 deco and came out clean - I seriously doubt that it can be done any faster with any combination of gases or equipment. You have to keep in mind that Jablonski is Helium Man, and he does a little more deco than me. Why? Because JJ teaches mix all week and then dives with me - he stays "loaded" ( not in the sense of most central Florida cave diving instructors, but with diving gases ). His deco is what I would recommend for eveyone else. Most people do not have two hours in the morning and one at night to work out with swim teams and road running clubs hat have professional coaches and world class facilities withing three miles of their house like we have here in Ft Lauderdale, and most people are not addicted to working out like we are. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
