Can those chemical heat packs be of any use, especially in combination with
coveralls, appropriate underwear (wool, wetsuit, etc).

Although at the beginning of the season here in New York we have similar
temperatures, and we dive in a  high risk environment for punctures, we are
generally not pulling the length of penetration and deco that you could not
suffer through in a flooded suit.
