Both Mr. Gavin and Mr. Jablonski make very persusasive arguements for
manifolded systems, however this is in the context of overhead environments
and hogarthian principles.

DIR would appear to allow single tanks for relatively warm open water ,
provided long hoses, buddy team methodology and proper gas management are also
employed.

It should be noted that the long hose, lack of a qd buckle and the wing type
compensator are the only deviation I can descern from basic open water one
scuba agency type gear choices. Oh and yes they have dismissed with the
snorkle from what I can tell.

What's less clear is how DIR affects basic procedures. The long hose resolves
OOA situations, the other situations commonly drilled are less clear. The one
that stands out in my mind is lost buddy procedure, but then the answer is
probably as simple as "don't lose your buddy".

i would appreciate any additional commentary as regards open water level
diving and DIR < or even hogarthian > style diving. I notice that even Mr.
Jablonski has not yet placed open water programs on his site, I am very
interested in reading about how he intends to teach such and what differences
he will make from the usual.
