IMHO nothing is worth the risk. i have gear spread out over a large portion of the east coast that i never elected to return for after i just completed my deco & arrived on the surface. i have grabbed divers by the leg going for the goody bag or light that broke loose while hanging on the anchor line- & wouldn't let them do that. i to have spent some time in the past talking with Robert & i am truly sad to hear of his passing. but quite frankly i have more compasion for his family. they have to go on without the father & husband that they loved. i extened all my sympathy to them. my one recomendation to all of us (& i include myself) is to STOP & THINK in any circumstance of the conequences of our actions before you act. make your decision after weighing your choices. would you start a dive to 90 fsw with 750 psi? remember gear can be replaced we can't! hank> Hank, You are absolutely right when you say it is silly to go after a piece of equipment after completing a (decompression) dive to 30 metres. But, in the spur of the moment, we all tend to do things we better should not have, sometimes we get away with it, and sometimes, sadly, we do not. Still, when you are at 30 meters and notice you will fall out of gas, there is still the possibility of making for the surface on one or two breaths. I think that there was some other problem that might have prevented him to make for the surface. Lets hope the investigation of the ME will show something. In the meantime, I want to extend my condoleances to Roberts wife, his daughter and the rest of his family and close friends. I did not know him personally, but through this list I was able to follow his ideas and have had some private e-mail discussions with him on various subjects. He was a very knowledgeable person who will be missed by a lot of people. Greetings Adri Haine Belgium -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
